Check out our Facebook page.

You can connect with VocalPoint singers and composers and view photos of recent events.

Composer Abbie Betinis recently wrote (very graciously) about VocalPoint on Facebook:

Anyone looking to change the world through singing? (who isn’t!) Consider auditioning for Jennifer Anderson’s new St. Paul-based VocalPoint Chorus. Jennifer is a joy to work with, endlessly creative, organized and insightful. All concerts will benefit global relief efforts near and far — and they will perform my music with soprano Maria Jette in February!

Jennifer has been posting previews of the songs we will be singing in February. Here’s a recent example tweet:

2012 Beneficiary: Open Arms of Minnesota

25 Oct

The task was this:  To choose an organization for our first year that was absolutely perfect — both a local and a global mission, thriving yet not too huge and corporate, doing work that is understandable and necessary, and headquartered right here in our Twin Cities.  Open Arms is the perfect choice, and we are thrilled to have this organization as our debut beneficiary.

Open Arms works with a variety of people, but it was started when one person said that watching his friends suffer with AIDS while no one offered to help was too much — and so he stepped in to fill a need.  The need was simple:  Offer hot, nutritious meals that fed both the body and the soul.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the discovery of AIDS.  We have an interesting dilemma:  a new generation of young people who don’t understand the gravity of this disease, and so are becoming infected at a scary rate.   And yet, to be honest, we in the United States are understandably blasé:  the medications available make the disease “treatable” unlike the death sentence it was just a few years ago.

But for millions across the globe, the reality is much different.  Medications are scarce, misinformation is rampant, and social stigmas are  paralyzing.

We are impressed with Open Arms’ ability to work with both our neighbors here in the metropolitan area, but also with our global neighbors in several African countries.  In the coming months, we will all learn more about great work of Open Arms, raise money to help them do more good work, and sing some great music along the way.

Welcome to VocalPoint!  It’s going to be a great year!

–Jennifer
